Lane Zardo Victorious in Steel City Super Stock Rumble Series Opener

MILLGROVE, Ontario ---- It may have the inaugural event for Steel City Super Stock Rumble Series presented by London Recreational Racing at Flamboro Speedway, but a familiar competitor found himself first when the checkered flag waved on Saturday night.


Steel City Super Stock Rumble Series


Lane Zardo timed in third fastest (16.486 seconds), but found himself starting just outside the top-five when the green flag waved. He carved his way through the traffic, breaking into the top-five with nine laps on the board. He continued to make passes, taking over the top spot on Lap 27. He then paced the final eight laps en route to picking up the checkered.


Bailey Jacobs was second ahead of top qualifier Roy Wilkie (16.357 seconds), Chad Corcoran, and Coltin Everingham. Long-time Flamboro regular Nick Troback was sixth in front of Brendon Edgar, Cole Burrows, and Steve Cashmore. Justin Collison failed to finish after a spin into the infield on Lap 5, with Dennis Cybalski rounding out the field.


Grisdale Entreprises Pro Late Models


After laying down the quickest lap in Grisdale Enterprises Pro Late Model time trials with a lap of 15.123 seconds, Jake Sheridan took the lead with 20 laps to go, pacing the field the rest of the way en route to the victory. Josh Stade was second in front of Shawn Chenoweth, Billy Schwartzenburg, and Kevin Albers. Cole Quinton battled inside the top-five for the first half of the event, fading back to sixth, ahead of Dan McHattie, Jacob Mercer, Cory Luciano, and Cory McAllister. Kevin Gallant and Rick Burbridge failed to finish. 


Weston Forest Products Ontario Pro Challenge


Ethan Fleet led flag-to-flag in the first Weston Forest Products Ontario Pro Challenge feature ahead of the Norris family, with Emma leading the way ahead of Mike and Tim. Traivs Majuery completed the top-five in front of Ty Riopelle, Jay Linde, Taylor Weber, Mike O'Connell, Tenli Pepin, and Sterling Hattin.


Mike Norris made it five wins in six races this season by winning the second feature ahead of Travis Majuery, Tim Norris, Emma Norris, and Mike O'Connell. Jay Linde rebounded for sixth in front of Ethan Fleet, Taylor Weber, Sterling Hattin, and Tenli Pepin. Ty Riopelle failed to finish. 


Klotz Auto Repair Mini Stocks


Mike Thomson led all 25 laps to win the first Klotz Auto Repair Mini Stock feature ahead of Matt Young, Tyler Lewis, Kaitlyn Wallace, and Coleridge Phinnemore. Mark Grieve spent a couple laps in the top-five, fading back for sixth in front of Alex Stewart, while Bobby Mercer failed to finish. Cam Thomson did not take the green flag.


Matt Young kept the consistency rolling, scoring another feature win, this time ahead of Mike Thomson, Tyler Lewis, Kaitlyn Wallace, and Coleridge Phinnemore. Mark Grieve was sixth once again in front of Alex Stewart, while Cam Thomson only was able to complete a single lap. Bobby Mercer did not take the green flag.


Hogan Law & McClurklin Properties of Cambridge Pure Stocks


Craig Cole made the last lap move to win the first Hogan Law & McClurklin Properties of Cambridge Pure Stocks feature ahead of Cam Thomson, Rick Mitchell, John Cote, and Rodney Rutherford. Chance Rogers battled his way forward for sixth in front of James Houghton, Leo Labarbera, Chase Mitchell, and Hailey Hill.


Brandyn Milligan was 11th, followed by Megan Mitchell, Rachel Mitchell, Caroline Kelly, and Mark Dennis. Spencer Riddell was the first car not to finish in 17th in front of Wayde Thorne, Teagan Ellis, Mark Allan, and Brady Cox.


James Houghton continues his winning pedigree this season, picking up the checkered flag in the second feature after winning Sunset Speedway's Bone Stock Battle Royale a week ago. Chase Mitchell ran inside the top-five all race long to second ahead of Wayde Thorne, Craig Cole, and Cam Thomson. John Cote put together another solid performance in sixth, followed by Chance Rogers, Rachel Mitchell, Brady Cox, and Mark Dennis.


Caroline was the last car to run all of the laps, placing 11th, in front of Rodney Rutherford and Spencer Riddell. Several drivers were taken out in a first lap crash, that saw a car roll over in the process. All drivers were okay with Megan Mitchell scored 14th ahead of Brandyn Milligan, Hailey Hill, Leo Labarbera, Rick Mitchell, and Mark Allan. Teagan Ellis did not take the green flag. 


The next event takes place at Flamboro Speedway on Saturday, May 31, featuring the Bill Zardo Memorial for the OSCAAR Hot Rods. The night of action also includes the Overkill Enterprises OSCAAR Modifieds, Canadian Vintage Modifieds, Mini Stocks, and Pure Stocks.
