MILLGROVE, Ontario --- It was cold and chilly, but the fans were treated to some great racing on-track as Flamboro Speedway played host to the season opener for both OSCAAR divisions.
OSCAAR Hot Rods - Bill Zardo Sr Memorial
Tyler Hawn started on the front row for the OSCAAR Hot Rod Bill Zardo Memorial after pulling a two in the re-draw following the qualifying heats, which gave him the crucial track position he needed. He broke out to the early advantage, and led all 30 laps en route to the victory. It did not come easy, though, as Wunsch served a heavy challenge, keeping himself locked on the bumper of the No. 2 Beaumont as he tried to find a way by with each lap.
Ultimately, Hawn got the honor of scoring the victory and was also awarded the McColl Racing Enterprises Halfway Leader bonus. For Wunsch, the runner-up marks his best career finish on the tour behind the wheel of his new car. Rob Bromley held off a challenge throughout from Dalen Martin and Jason Parker to complete the podium.
Dave McMahon was sixth ahead of Trevor Thompson, Brian Wilson, and Matt Spry.
Unfortunately, the event featured a significant accident on Lap 2 when a rad hose let go on Lane Zardo’s Dodge, resulting in the track turning into an ice rink with water throughout turns three and four. Both Zardo and Steve Book found themselves on their roof after the incident concluded. Thankfully, all drivers were okay and uninjured. Zardo was credited with a 10th-place finish in front of Drew Richardson, Book, and Adrian Foster.
Heat victories went to Thomas Wunsch and Trevor Thompson.
Overkill Enterprises OSCAAR Modifieds
Jason Keen kept himself in position throughout the event for the Overkill Enterprises OSCAAR Modifieds, hot on the heels of then-race leader Steve Trendell, searching for a way by throughout the 30-lap event. The battle took a turn when a caution came out with two laps to go for a spin by Ryan Dick after contact with Dale Reinhart. Keen was able to get the jump on the restart, taking the advantage going into turn one and pacing the final two laps en route to scoring the victory.
Trendell came across the finish line second, and was awarded the McColl Racing Enterprises Halfway Leader bonus after leading 28 of the 30 laps. Luke Gignac took advantage of the late-race contact for third, ahead of Dick and Reinhart. Wally Wilson battled a tight racecar en route to sixth in front of Brandon Feeney, Bob Franks, and Andrew Massey.
Heat victories went to Ryan Dick and Dale Reinhart.
